Have you ever thought to yourself, “I could do that!” when looking at a work of abstract art in a museum or gallery? Or wondered why collectors pay millions of dollars for an artwork that seems silly, simplistic, bizarre, or just plain ugly? Champlain College Professor David Mills leads an exploration of ways of encountering art as more than just subjective preference. Part of the Ideas on Tap series presented by the Vermont Humanities Council and University of Vermont’s Humanities Center.

Some of the most memorable and important conversations—deep conversations about literature, history, and culture—often happen with friends, over a meal or a drink. The Ideas on Tap series, presented by the Vermont Humanities Council and University of Vermont’s Humanities Center, is designed to convene these sorts of informal, informative, and provocative conversations, and to strengthen them with a scholar’s content expertise. The 2016 Ideas on Tap series begins on Wednesday, April 6. Each event starts at 7 pm and is free and open to the public. The ArtsRiot bar and restaurant will be open for service.
