Pierrevy Polyte (whose friends know him as “Pievy”) is originally from Haiti where he grew coffee, cocoa, vegetables and fruit on his farm on Peak Macaya. In 2005, he built the only school on the mountain where 50 students first attended. There are now 500 students enrolled in the school, where they develop basic skills and learn about biodiversity.
In the fall of 2016, Hurricane Matthew devastated the farm and school. The students were moved to a temporary shelter while the school was rebuilt. In 2020, Hurricane Laura destroyed parts of the school and farm. Now in 2022, students are back in the school with struggling infrastructure, lacking toilets, and other amenities.
Every time Pievy sells a painting, the proceeds go directly to support the school and farm. The repairs are about 50% completed, and Pievy believes that through his art, the school will be able to completely repair its infrastructure so the students have a safe place to learn.
Pievy welcomes contact regarding his art. To learn more about his inspiration and work, give him an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
