Poetry Riot (formally known as Poetry Slam) is ArtsRiot's longest running residency. True to the motto Destroy Apathy, it is a local open mic and platform of expression for experienced and budding poets alike. We pride ourselves on holding a warmly inviting inclusive space that is safe to be vulnerable and authentic in and to share your unique expression. All are welcome! This event is sponsored by the Young Writers Project.

Jasmine Fuego is an artist of many talents and passions; singer, dancer, MC and youth educator. She is deeply committed to using art in service of justice, self empowerment and liberation. Her music incorporates live vocal looping to seamlessly combine genres that create a unique sound she calls soul-pop. In 2014, she co-founded the Permaculture Action Network, and is currently planning a national tour where she will be teaching 2 day Regenerative Design for Change Makers Trainings and curating public concerts called the Change Makers Tour. When she isn't performing or touring, Jasmine teaches mindfulness & performance arts to youth in Richmond, Ca with the Mindful Life Project.

Abrah Dresdale, MA, is a poet, educator, curriculum designer, and a cultural shift consultant in the fields of social permaculture and prison food justice. brah lives in Western Massachusetts where she is on Faculty at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and at Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. She is the Co-Director of Regenerate Change, a project that combines art, justice, ecology, and design in the form of popular education trainings and performance art. She is the author of the forthcoming curricular guidebook for these trainings--Regenerative Design for Change Makers. As a spoken word poet, she believes in the power of words to shape and collectively call forth our future into being. More at
