Cinema Casualties – “Raw Force”

Three years ago, we rang in the debut of Cinema Casualties with the Spanish slasher trash epic “Pieces,” a perfect patchwork of absurdity and insanity that struck at the very heart of what this series was meant to be. Since then, through 20 subsequent screenings, we’ve hit upon cheesy ‘80s American horror, Euro craziness, mind-boggling atrocities (never forget “Night Train To Terror”) and even a couple genuine classics. For the three-year anniversary of Cinema Casualties we’re circling back to the kind of film that kicked us off in the first place. While it certainly doesn’t match “Pieces” in the splatter department, the Philippino-American production “Raw Force” goes toe-to-toe with it in terms of hilarious inanity, jaw-dropping weirdness and sheer “couldn’t-give-a-shit” attitude. “Raw Force” is exactly the film it wants to be against all sense of reason, with a kind of idiotic confidence that allowed a handful of late-‘70s/early-‘80s grindhouse flicks to transcend the concept of “good filmmaking” to reach a totally different, spectacular realm reserved only for true Cinema Casualties.

So yeah, this one’s a real doozy. Come join us for this special 3-year anniversary celebration, because you probably won’t have too many chances to see a flick like THIS in Burlington again.
Cinema Casualties is a not-for-profit series dedicated to screening trashy, audience-friendly old-school horror movies, which seeks to bring people together as a celebration of the communal joy inherent in the film-going experience specific to the genre. The series has been running at ArtsRiot since July of 2015.
